There's a lot to be said about the science of music and the musical craft of a great Entertainer/DJ. They can make or break the night and will be the difference in guests wanting to leave early looking at their watches feeling awkward....and we've all done that, or staying celebrating the occasion until the very end with a full dance floor. Your event is a gathering of colleagues, family and friends and is a celebration, it's not a night club and your selections should be thought through carefully.

Music or Games?

 

Playing games at weddings was big in the late 80's and 90's and quickly died. Some DJ's pride themselves and their performance on playing games at weddings and events, as it takes up a lot of valuable dancing time and is very unsettling for the banquets manager at your venue. Whilst we understand there is a need and some clients like playing games, it is a minority. Having guests playing musical chairs and running around the room on a scavenger hunt looking for bras, clothes, socks etc, is not Middleton Events idea of entertainment.....it's not what we're about, as it can be offensive to others and put your venue timelines behind schedules. Most venues dislike this and concur with our thoughts.

 

Family, friends and guests invited to a wedding, birthday or event want to be entertained with music, they want to feel inclusive, engaged and entertained without feeling uncomfortable. Middleton Events prides itself on providing outstanding interactive entertainment that is music focused and keeping not only the guests engaged and entertained, but keeping the dance floor pumping without interruptions. We always ensure ALL guests are on the dance floor at one point or another throughout the evening and have a variety of unique ways of making this happen.

 

Most people who attend events haven't been out in a long time as they have children, work commitments and mortgages and we all have busy lives. It's important to start the dance floor for a 60/40 crowd, with one or two popular ballads and use a segue song to get them releasing from each other, as most people feel uncomfortable cutting their moves on the dance floor from the get go. This can also be achieved with group songs that can involve everyone.

The 2 key elements of a professional DJ/Entertainer and to the success of any event are;

2. Atmosphere

 

Building the momentum in the room starts from the very beginning and your DJ needs to be able to speak clearly, concisely and in a professional manner, but most importantly have FUN. Guests will decide in the first 2.8 seconds after the microphone is opened whether it's going to be a good or bad night. Your music needs to gather momentum and provide the right atmosphere, at the right volume to gain the best results. Atmosphere is also created from the start allowing guests the opportunity to mingle over easy listening music, whilst they've come together to network or catch up. The BPM's (Beats Per Minute/Tempo) in a song should slowly increase throughout the course of pre-dinners and/or dinner music, as to not put guests to sleep. At Middleton Events it's our goal to have guests singing along to classics and chair dancing ready to hit the floor just before speeches, and/or when the dance floor opens. It's not uncommon when the music is great to see guests hit the dance floor immediately on entry into the room. We love crowds like that and makes for a memorable night!

 

Rotation of Genres and Eras of music to keep the dance floor full and all age groups entertained at your event is critical. A professional DJ knows how to read the crowd and should be planning 4 songs in advance. Whilst it's important to keep as many people on the dance floor as possible, it's also important to rotate the dance floor so all guests are entertained and the music satisfies all. Don't feel bad if your guests are not dancers and not filling the dance floor. We can only provide the right music and atmosphere to make this happen and there are others ways to engage the audience. In this case a Mirror Booth is a great option for an alternative source of entertainment to keep guests laughing and entertained.

 

How to select the right music for your event?

 

We've managed and performed at thousands of events and have a wealth of knowledge and experience at your disposal. It's this experience that we love to pass on to our clients to ensure your event, is your way, your music, and has the WOW factor.

 

We love our clients having input into their most favourite songs......after all you know what your family friends and guests are in to and what provokes great memories. We don't want you to program the entire music format, but to give us a guide.

 

We will always endeavour to get you to list your exclusive music planning portal, your must plays, family, friends and favourites and do not plays....the songs that upset people, that may have been played at a funeral, from a previous relationship, or that you definitely do not want played. Beware of the DJ at private and corporate events with set playlists!

 

Middleton Events provides all clients with their own exclusive online planning portal which allows you to login to your event and watch the countdown to your event. You can also view all of your event details, make changes if needed, update music requests, timelines, plan your formalities, speeches and procedures, contact us, make payments, digitally sign documents and much more. It will even allow your guests to log in and request or dedicate songs to you!

Guest Requests

You'll receive a unique URL that you can post on your invitations or email, tweet or Facebook to invite guests to log on on to your portal and request and dedicate songs. They will not see any of your information or selections, just a sample music database where they can request songs before your event from anywhere in the world. Within 15 seconds of submitting their request, you'll be notified by an email from us that your guest has requested a song and you can accept or reject that request. You have the power and complete control as to the music selections of your guests. If you accept their request, it will populate the guest request system......if you reject it, it's lost in space. A fantastic way to know before we even turn up, what your guests want to hear.

Whilst its important to get this guidance, we know how to fill a dance floor and we bleed our clients must plays and guests requests into what we know maximising dance floor participation. Not one event is the same, but this will allow us to quickly and more accurately understand the guests music tastes to provide the best event possible.
